Federica Di Pietrantonio’s artistic research focuses on the verge between virtual reality and actual reality, always referring to the world of art’s iconographic dynamics.
Through our daily use of digital devices, we are constantly thrown into a space that gets increasignly virtual, untouchable, limitless and out of time. I believe that our reality might somehow be considered the screen through which most of our knowledge and experiences get to us.
The image, when coming from a screen, acquires a new form of sovereignty that substitutes our sensory mode, making the blind contemporary spectator fall into a state of deep ambuguity. The artist makes an attempt to shift the art market dynamics towards a virtual container, overboarding the truth’s confinement, and suggesting both paintings and situations that brings whithin themselves strongly art related values.
Di Pietrantonio mainly uses oil painting and media art installations as her medium. The goals are respectively to create an imitation of reality through painting, and to reach a theatrical fictional level through her installations.
Her work often fluctuates between the perceived reality ad the fictional quality of the virtual devices, stubbornly trying to break the frail securities our contemporary society offers.
